The history of this beautiful and sprawling winery dates back to as early as 1692, which makes Spier one of the most ancient wineries in South Africa. The beauty of this winery is that the wines are created here with excellent precision, without causing any disturbance to the environment. Cellar Master Frances Smit joined the winery in 1996 and he is one of the major reasons for the transformation of this small Stellenbosch unit into one of the award-winning, reputed wineries that it is today. Focused on art and good farming, Spier is about farm-to-table food and accoladed wines.

This batch of wine was originally purchased for the restaurant trade, a large percentage going to Nando's but due to enforced closures over the last 12-24 months, overstocks have been released to the clearance market which is where we have purchased some to give you a good value red for less than £6. Not sure this is an ideal match for spicy chicken either!? Anyway, this wine is better enjoyed with meaty, saucy dishes as mentioned in the bullet points above.
