Description

A superb buttery Verdejo from Rueda in north-west Spain. Medium bodied, full of character with a bouquet dominated by fruity aromas of citrus and peaches as well as herbal notes of fennel and fresh hay.

  • Vintage: 2017 … please note photos show 2020 vintage bottle
  • Origin: Bodega Cuatro Rayas, Rueda DO - Spain
  • Taste guide: Dry, barrel fermented (oaked); Clean, leafy and almost berry hints on the nose, the palate is smooth/buttery but full of herbal flavours and a touch of fennel on the finish. This is good quality Spanish wine with lots of full bodied fruit with balance. Lots of flavour and intensity here, this is fairly special and very interesting. Well made and very different, silky buttery texture and good length on the finish. Still drinking well for a 2017.
  • Food match: Delicious as a fresh aperitif and goes well with Mediterranean cuisine, pizzas, pastas, tapas, whitefish, salmon, sushi, gambas and shellfish.
  • Vegan & Vegetarian friendly
  • 75cl - 13.5% - Traditional Cork Closure

Rueda is a wine producing region in the heart of the Iberian Peninsula, on the high plateau of Castilla y León, between two of Spain’s most famous red-wine regions, Ribera del Duero and Toro, and just to the north-west of the Spanish capital, Madrid. The river Duero flows through this region from East to West. Rueda was the first Denominación de Origen to be certified in the Region of Castilla y León (1980). This high plateau is characterised by a typical continental climate featuring long cold winters, a brief spring season, and dry harsh hot summers.

The Cuatro Rayas winery at La Seca, in the heart of Rueda. Cuatro Rayas is one of the longest serving producers in Rueda, with a resulting average vineyard age to make others envious. The careful handling of the top grape variety in this region, Verdejo, combined with their modern wine making techniques, has resulted in a deliciously fresh and fruity yet aromatic white wine of authentic character and personality.

If you like fragrant, aromatic Sauvignon Blanc you will love Verdejo - and at BinEndWines' price of just £7.49, what's not to like? Retails at £8-£9.79 elsewhere, checked Sept ‘22
