Nero d’Avola is a grape variety native to Sicily. With its dark, ripe-berried fruit and a hint of liquorice and vanilla spice, it shows a similarity in style to Shiraz.
This lovely red wine was produced and imported for the restaurant trade, where it would retail at just over £20 a bottle or about £4 for a small glass (125ml). For example, The Cricketers in Sarratt, Herts stock(ed) this recently.
Online, you can find this at a couple of other wine merchants for £8.50-£9.50, not here of course, just £6.89 for a niche grape and a rare wine!
