Robert Mondavi crafted this signature wine in his established, namesake winery in 1966. He had a vision to create Napa Valley wines that would stand in the company of the world’s finest. This first-growth vineyard, located in Oakville, California, is renowned for producing some of the finest Sauvignon Blanc grapes, (as well as Cabernet Sauvignon wines) in the world!

They take full advantage of the complementary characteristics of the fruit from the Wappo Hill vineyard in the Stag’s Leap District and the renowned To Kalon vineyard in Oakville. Wappo Hill provides the bright citrus and herbal flavors as well as its classic Sauvignon Blanc lift and the Kalon vineyard fruit supplies richness, weight, age-ability and increased complexity, bringing in layers of floral, tropical, and mineral flavors to the blend.

The grapes were hand-harvested in the cool of the morning and gently pressed as whole clusters, minimizing skin contact, to retain freshness and flavor vibrancy. All of the juice was barrel fermented for added richness and complexity, with 5% in new French oak for added texture and complexity. The new wine was aged for six months in 60-gallon French oak barrels, sûr lie (on the yeast lees), and hand-stirred twice a month for a creamy texture and seamless integration of flavors. The addition of a small percentage of Sémillon gives the final blend a broader mouthfeel and enhanced complexity.

This wine has a nice nose of stone fruit, Meyer lemon, white flowers, gooseberry and has a light grassiness on the palate. Medium bodied, very dry, vibrant and a long finish. Pairs well with seafood, pork or chicken and we recommend drinking this 'very' chilled to add to the smoothness.

Rare wine 'hardly' found elsewhere at £25 per bottle upwards. Binendwines' price now just £14.99 to clear the last few bottles
