The great pioneer of good Malbec in Argentina is without a doubt Nicolas Catena, the man behind the wineries Catena Zapata, Alamos and Esmeralda, where this wine comes from. The vineyards for this wine are above 1000 metres in altitude, causing a strong nocturnal cooling. This yields a wine with a lot of aroma and depth, with delicious fruit. It is made in a powerful style, with short ageing on French and American oak wood.
Very hard to get this in the UK as most is imported and consumed in the Netherlands! RRP is tricky to calculate but we think it would have a high street retail of circa £10 and over double than in a restaurant.
