Klein Simonsvlei, the home of Niel Joubert Wines lies on the slopes of the Simonsberg mountain, on the outskirts of Paarl in the Western Cape winelands. A large wine and fruit farm it has spectacular scenery, which includes five hills and ten dams fed from a natural mountain spring.

It has been owned since 1898 by the Joubert family, horticulturalists and grape growers by training, and is still run hands-on by individual family members, now in the 5th generation. The vineyards which are some 260 ha in extent are situated on the Paarl side of the Simonsberg Mountain. The farm has a moderate climate, ideal for grape growing, with an average winter rainfall of 900mm and temperatures ranging from 7°C in winter to 30°C in summer. The cooling Atlantic breeze in summer, greatly contributes to the flavour retention of the grapes.

Niel Joubert Enita Sauvignon Blanc is named for Enita Joubert, the wife of the late Niel Joubert senior. as her absolute favourite wine of the range is the Sauvignon Blanc. Additionally, new labelling, emphasises that this wine is made solely from Estate grown grapes, vinified on the Estate, and then bottled there.

The grapes for this Sauvignon Blanc come from vineyards situated on the higher and cooler slopes to benefit from the cooler breezes and so retain all the delicate flavours,

The pale hue and tinge of green already gives a clue to the vineyard provenance and what to expect in the wine. It captures both grapefruit and passion fruit intensity in the aromas which follows through to the palate. Crisply dry, there’s a sleek freshness with an extended finish carrying the fruit flavours.

This is a Single Estate produced wine produced from fruit grown in the most select vineyards of the specific Paarl region. We cannot overstate just how much better this wine is compared with mass produced examples.

This is one of the few wines we obtain directly from the importer and is primarily a restaurant wine. But where seen in retail is considerably more than the £9 here at BinEndWines.
