Pinotage is a uniquely South African grape and this wine is a superb example. Developed 95 years ago as a cross between Pinot Noir and Cinsaut, with Cinsaut's common, if misleading, Cape synonym Hermitage, providing the third syllable.
With more than 300 years of winemaking history, South Africa is one of the most relevant wine producing countries in the Southern Hemisphere, repeatedly regarded as a bridge between the Old and the New World. Vines were first planted in South Africa by Dutch colonists in the 1650s and Nederberg was founded in 1791.
Rarely seen on the High Street and we couldn’t find it online. Not to be mistaken by the ‘Winemasters Pinotage’ which retails at £12, this version has a RRP of circa £10
