Muscadet is the white wine for seafood and the very best comes from the specific Sèvre et Maine appellation, south west of the city of Nantes.

“Les Petites Sardines” is the flagship Muscadet blend from Vignerons du Pallet, a fairly small, atypical co-operative of 10 members, and bottled by the renowned Albert Besombes.

Produced from 100% Melon de Bourgogne (Muscadet) grapes selected from the very best vineyards within the co-operative membership. The grapes were harvested just at maturity to keep them fresh. The juice was extracted by direct pneumatic pressing after which it was allowed to settle, then vinified using selected yeasts in concrete vats. After fermentation, the wine is aged on a yeast sediment - the lees - hence the name "sur lie". This process increases the aromatic complexity of the final wine and offers good ageing potential.

The wine has a light straw colour with a light greenish tint. The nose offers delicate floral nuances which are intertwined with saline notes. The palate is quite light showing citrus freshness and a slight pearliness, with tones of minerals and flowers. It is very dry.

The "Sur Lie" ageing adds creamy complexity and aids the long, satisfying finish. After bottling the wine was allowed to further age in bottle at the winery before being released.

Muscadet is a classic aperitif; is the ideal wine for shellfish and other fish dishes and complements poultry.

Rarely found in retail but seen on restaurant menus at prices from £20 upwards - suggesting a £10 retail...
