The land on which the Hahn vineyards sit was first settled in 1845 and remarkably this holding is still in Hahn family hands, six generations on, with the current custodians, Jacqui and James Hahn still occupying the original homestead.

The partnership of Rolf Binder/Veritas wines and the Hahn family was established in 1997 and today Barossa winemaker Rolf Binder continues to produce the wines under the same label. The Hahn’s tend the vines and the crop and the two consult each other to set cropping levels through to the time of harvest.

This 2014 vintage of JJ Hahn Reginald is a full-flavoured Barossa red wine offering up ripe black forest fruits and mocha flavours, along with some attractive spice, rounded soft tannins and excellent persistent weight on the palate. This is a blend of wine made from grape parcels, 78% Shiraz, from ancient vineyards on the Western Ridge, vinified separately and aged for about a year in French and American oak barrels prior to final selection. This was blended with the 12% Cabernet Sauvignon, also separately aged, and then bottled without filtration.

A full-bodied, full-flavoured Shiraz Cabernet is the promise behind the very deep brick red colour. Notes of tea leaf, cedar, sweet berries, spice, chocolate and cigar box aromas fill the glass. Ripe black forest fruits and spice are balanced by rounded tannins and seamless structure. The palate reflects the nose with flavours of cedar, stewed fruit and cigar box. Fine drying tannins.

This is a classic Barossa red that represents exceptional drinkability and value. Complex and powerful yet very approachable.
