The Vineyards of Château Escalette are spread over 14 hectares in Côtes de Bourg on the north bank of the river Gironde. Carefully worked in the respect of nature and environment, Château Escalette has been certified AB Organic since 2013. This property is owned by Château de Barbe (we have their wine listed on our website) but separately run.
Again the grapes are Merlot, Cabernet and Malbec but in the proportions of 70% Merlot, 25% Cabernet Sauvignon and 5% Malbec. The vineyards are on very chalky-clay soil with vines of an average age of 35 years planted at a low density offering lower yields of top quality fruit.
The relatively early harvest took place under excellent weather conditions allowing the winemaker to harvest healthy grapes with optimal ripeness. Each varietal was harvested and vinified separately with initial fermentation and secondary malolactic fermentation in tanks. The separate wines were then carefully blended to form the final wine which was then allowed to marry in tanks for many months. This wine has seen no oak and has matured beautifully in bottle. It was elaborated with the same philosophy and by the same team as the Château de Barbe.
Nice bright red colour with tints of purple. The wine shows and intense bouquet of ripe red berries - notably nuances of strawberry and raspberry. Thanks to its suppleness, the intensity found in the middle palate and the fine tannins contained in the finish, the ensemble presents a very attractive profile. No oak ageing has allowed the wine to keep a great fruitiness and a pure expression of the fruits.
Food pairing: With red meat and poultry. Drink at around 16°C.
Again a restaurant wine which sells for £32 at "Simpsons Tavern" in The City, indicating a retail of around £16.
Just £9.99 for an Organic Château produced Claret.
