Bodegas Criadores de Rioja is a family business that has managed to create its own style of modern and fruity wines while respecting the hallmarks that have characterized Rioja wines. Located in Alberite, a small town 8 km from Logroño, the winery has the most modern production technology that is combined with the almost artisanal care in winemaking. Criadores de Rioja produces different types of wines from vineyards located in one of the historic areas of Rioja. This wine was produced by the Castillo de Clavijo under a specific label for a major UK wholesaler, which has since gone bust, hence us getting this wine at a bargain price.

With Bodegas Castillo Clavijo you will discover honest wines, faithfully representing the traditional style of Rioja, enhanced by the vision and personality of their young winemaker, Paloma Redondo. Authentic wines made
​​from and with the heart of Rioja.

The battlements of actual Castillo mark the edge of the Sierra del Camero Viejo and from here one can see the three different sub-areas of the DOCa Rioja: Rioja Alta and its blue mountain contour; Rioja Alavesa with its yellowish, limestone soils; and Rioja Baja with its flint stones and red hues. Made from 100% Tempranillo grown in select vineyards from across all three sub-regions, where the vines are younger with an average age of 10 years. The grapes were manually harvested and vinified in stainless steel tanks at a controlled temperature of 26 °C.

A fun, fruity wine, perfect to enjoy every day with a snack or any Mediterranean dishes, like rice, vegetable or pasta. This wine is representative of the virtues of the Tempranillo variety: intense floral aromas, very fresh red and dark fruit and delicate hints of black liquorice. More dominated by blackberry and dark stone fruit flavours than other Riojas we have listed, this is a very good wine indeed.

Not seen in retail, this was primarily a restaurant wine, and as such we have seen it listed at around £22.50.

This would indicate a retail of half that - which we think is rather OTT!
