Mouraz is António’s birthplace, a village where his family has been cultivating vineyards in a holistic and ecological way for several generations.
“The quinta is spread over several vineyards with different soils, altitudes and surroundings, on a total of 25 hectares of land. Old vineyards with about 50 years old and recently planted vineyards coexist with the pine, oak, chestnut and cork-tree forests, in a landscape marked by gentle hillsides cut by small streams. The predominant soils are granite and altitudes vary between 200 and 400 metres. The grape varieties are exclusively Portuguese, with predominance of the typical Dão grape varieties such as Touriga Nacional, Tinta Roriz, Alfrocheiro, Jaen, Água-Santa or Baga (in the reds), Encruzado, Malvasia Fina, Bical and Cercial (in the whites). All our vineyards are organically farmed and have been certified by ECOCERT since 1996. In 2006, we started working with biodynamic preparations and practices. In the winery the vinifications are made by vineyards, usually planted with mixed grape varieties, with the aim of seeking the essence of each terroir. In 2009 we joined the prestigious group of biodynamic producers La Renaissance des Appellations”.
