Taste guide: Full bodied, red berry and dark stone fruit flavours, spice and vanilla, oaked
75cl - 14% - screwcap
This multi-award winning wine is produced from Argentina's signature grape, Malbec, harvested from vineyards in the Mendoza region with 50% coming from Luján de Cuyo and 50% from Uco Valley. The climate here is dry and continental with great sun exposure allowing perfect ripening. The vines are low yielding and the grapes were harvested in the last week of March by hand picking into small cases. This attention to detail ensures that only the best fruit is used in making this wine.
The grapes were destemmed and crushed with cold maceration before fermentation, which took 20 days in stainless steel. Natural malolactic fermention was allowed prior to the wine being aged in French oak barrels for 6 months. A further 5 months bottle ageing in the winery took place before the wine was released.
The resultant wine is bright carmine red in colour and shows aromas of plum and raspberry mingling elegantly with vanilla notes from the oak. The palate is rich and powerful, well balanced, and exhibits sweet tannins and a velvety finish. This is a very fruity and fulsome wine, an exuberant partner to grilled red meat or roasts such as beef, venison or even lamb.
The winery indicates a cellaring potential of 3 years for this wine so it is at its optimum now.
Sells in other outlets for around £8.99 - Binendwines' price is now just £6.95 for these bottles with slightly scuffed labels.
