Azafran is the Spanish for Saffron, and this wine is so named as fields of saffron compete for space with widespread vineyards in central Spain.

Bodegas Mosén Pierre is situated in the province of Navarre and this wine is made from Spain's most important red grape, Tempranillo, with the international superstar Syrah (Shiraz).

Grapes were harvested from select low yielding vineyards which were closely monitored so grapes were picked at their best. Both varietals were separately vinified in a state of the art winery, well equipped with the most modern winemaking machinery to create fantastic wines. Stainless steel tanks were used throughout fermentation, and the cuvées blended in the proportions of 80% Tempranillo and 20% Syrah. The final wine was then cold stabilised and bottled in order to retain freshness and vibrancy. No oak was used.

This wine is ruby red in colour with violet tints showing its youth. On the nose it is fresh and elegant with characteristic aromas of cherry and red fruits typical of this variety. Light, harmonic and round on the palate showing raspberry and soft cherry spice from the Tempranillo to more spice and mocha with blackcurrants from the Syrah. The use of grapes from smaller bush vine parcels adds cinnamon and black pepper characters. The tannins are soft. An exotic wine as befits its name.

This red is ideal with charcuterie, red meats and stews.

Back in stock after selling out quickly last year, this is another wine primarily for the restaurant trade, cleared by the importer. This has an RRP of £8 - at Binendwines just £5.95
