Origin: Bodegas Solar Viejo, Laguardia, Rioja Alavesa
Taste guide: Medium bodied, blackberry and dark cherry fruit flavours, unoaked
75cl - 13.5% - screwcap
Made from 100% Tempranillo grown in the Alavesa sub-region of Rioja, around the beautiful and historic town of Laguardia.
The prestigious wines of Rioja Alavesa are internationally recognized. The quality of its wines is due to its privileged location: clay and calcareous soils, semi-dry climate and protection from old North winds by the Sierra de Cantabria mountains. This, plus age-old wine traditions and the value-added of new technology, produces world class wines in the D.O.C.
The 2014 vintage was far better than the previous year both quantitatively and qualitatively and was officially classified as "Good".
Intense ruby red with notable violet flashes. On the nose there is an abundance of ripe red fruits, predominantly raspberry and strawberry, typical of young red Rioja Alavesa. On the palate there are blackberry and dark cherry fruit flavours coupled with medium acidity. This wine has softened with its slight bottle ageing. Soft supple tannins make this a satisfying easy to drink wine. The finish is medium in length, and shows good, clean vivacious fruit.
Serve with rice dishes, pasta, tapas and other light aperitifs, mild cheeses, cooked meats.
Sells for £8.49 at Ocado - Binendwines' price is just £6.25.
