A New World Riesling that's a match for many that Alsace produces, and at a fraction of the price of such wines. This wine is produced under the Cono Sur Reserva Especial label, which is one of their better ranges.

Produced from grapes grown on the Quitralmán Estate and the San Pedro Estate, both in the Bio Bio Valley, the most northern of Chile's vineyards, where the cool climate is ideal for the very best Riesling.

The grapes were hand picked, with the two vineyards' fruit separately fermented in Cono Sur's Santa Elisa winery. Stainless steel was used throughout throughout. The two cuvées were then carefully blended and allowed to marry for 6 months in stainlee steel vats, prior to bottling.

This bright and clean Riesling has a greenish yellow colouring and a very expressive nose with notes reminiscent of white flowers, white peaches, orange blossom and grapefruit. On the palate it is full and silky with great balance between sweetness and acidity. Citric fruit flavours - mandarin, grapefruit and lemon - combine with tropical notes of peaches and apricots, wrapped with elegant jasmine aromas. There are slight sweetened elements balanced by good minerality, and an intrinsic crispness and aromatic intensity.

This is undoubtedly an elegant Riesling, and to repeat, more in the style of an Alsace wine than say a German.

From the latest vintage for drinking now, the winery indicates that this wine will drink well for another 2-3 years if kept well.

We couldn't find this wine in online retail, but previous vintages had been on sale at prices above £9. Note that this is the Cono Sur Reserva Especial and not to be confused with their cheaper label.

Binendwines' price is only £7.25.
