The organic and biodynamic wines from the New Zealand based Huia Vineyards are great examples that reflect the richness of the vines cultivated in the Marlborough region. This wine label was established in 1996 and has been following sustainable farming and winemaking techniques since then.
You will not see any pesticides, insecticides, or herbicides being used in the vineyards to retain the natural flavours of the fruits. Wild yeasts are used for the fermentation process and the sustainability of the land is given 100% importance at all times.
A 30% portion was fermented in neutral French oak to add further richness and complexity to the wine.
Handcrafted by winemakers Claire and Michael Allan, with daughters Tui and Sophie keenly involved, Huia, (pronounced "Hoo-yah") is all about passion for the wine and the environment.
This wine shows a good aromatic intensity with bright herbaceous and floral notes, gooseberry, and lime. It is layered with flavours ranging from guava, melon, gooseberry and lime zest. This uplifting Sauvignon shows an excellent length and depth on the palate and is still drinking very well.
Will pair well with cheeses like Feta and Goats, otherwise this will be lovely with fish dishes and poultry.
