Only in the New World would you find a winemaker blending a varietal emanating from Bordeaux and The Loire in France - Sauvignon Blanc, with a varietal grown primarily in Spain - Pedro Ximenex. But here in Chile, the renowned Concha y Toro has some of the most extensive vineyards combined with contracted growers to supply the grapes, and some of the best winemakers to produce the perfect blend.
The fruit was primarily sourced from Estate vineyards across the Valle Centrale of Chile and vinified in Concha Y Toro's ultra-modern winery under temperature-controlled conditions. Each varietal was separately vinified with fermentation carried out in stainless steel, the component wines then carefully blended with the resultant wine allowed to marry for a couple of months, again in stainless steel vats, before bottling.
The colour is pale lemon and the wine shows aromas of apple and citrus. The grapefruit citrus follows through to the palate where tropical fruit flavours add complexity - hints of melon, lychee and pineapple. This is still a typically dry and crisp wine but is also soft and supple. In truth it is very moreish.
Perfect with seafood and salads or just on its own.
A retail of around £5.99, Binendwines' price is just £4.95.
