Don Maximiano Errázuriz founded Viña Errázuriz in 1870. With his great vision for the future and his innovative, pioneering spirit, he planted the first French grape varieties in the Aconcagua Valley. His initiative and creativity were handed down to future generations and his descendants have consolidated the winery and positioned their wines among the world’s most noteworthy.
The grapes for their Estate Cabernet Sauvignon come from selected vineyards in the Aconcagua and Maipo Valleys. The vineyards in the Aconcagua Valley are close to the Pacific Ocean’s coast, on rolling hills at an altitude of 100 to 300 metres above sea level. Of a Mediterranean climate, the valley has moderately warm summer days and fresh evening breezes, which allows the development of intense colours and ripe flavours. The Maipo Valley, of Mediterranean climate also, is well known for the fresh morning breezes that blow in from the Andes Mountains, and for the moderate day temperatures that allow grapes to reach perfect ripeness, preserving their acidity and freshness.
The 2018 season offered very good growing conditions allowing the grapes to develop aromatic and flavour complexity. The grapes were harvested at optimum ripeness and vinified in Viña Errázuriz’s historic winery in Panquehue. The wines produced from the two vineyards were then carefully blended to perfectly match the nuances from each site, then aged in French oak barrels before bottling.
This wine displays an intense ruby red colour with violet hues. The nose reveals aromas of red fruit and black fruit with balsamic tones, which complements with notes of vanilla, chocolate, cherry and plums. It has a soft palate, fine-grained tannins, and refreshing acidity. The tannins are beautifully integrated and soft, adding complexity and body. The finish is fullish and long.
This Reserva wine reflects the varietal character, which combined with an ageing of 6 months in French oak barrels, makes it stand out from the average Chilean Cabernet Sauvignon.
Enjoy it with red meats, grilled meats and stews.
