A lot of Italian Pinot Grigio currently on the market is sadly inferior, with the Pinot Grigio being bulked out with other lesser varietals. This is perfectly legal up to a set percentage and also there is no requirement for it to be declared on the label.
This wine is produced from 100% Pinot Grigio by the renowned winemaker Antica Corte and was imported into the UK by one of the UK's top wholesalers. It was on wine lists of up-market restaurants and hotels across the country, where prices vary from £17.50 for small restaurants up to £23.95 in a boutique hotel.
The grapes were grown in vineyards with predominantly clay soils in the Veneto - the top region for Pinot Grigio. Following a gentle pressing, the must was taken off the skins and was left to ferment for 15-20 days at controlled temperatures in stainless steel vats.
The resultant wine is pale straw in colour with tints of green. The nose shows floral and pear notes which follow through to the palate. This is a delicately structured, stylish Pinot Grigio. Dry yet rounded, with a refreshing finish.
As said is primarily a restaurant wine but has been seen in retail at prices up to £7.99 - Binendwines' price is just £5.95.
