A very good Chilean Cabernet from the multi award-winning Concha y Toro winery, produced especially for Tesco, but delisted due to range changes and cleared at a discount price, which Binendwines is passing on.
Chilean Cabernet Sauvignon has different nuances to Cabernets from other countries, due to ungrafted vines and different viticulture with more blackberry and dark stone fruit flavours.
The grapes were harvested from select vineyards across Chile's Central Valley and vinified using traditional techniques in Concha y Toro's modern winery utilising stainless steel vats which retains all the fruit of Cabernet.
The colour is deep garnet red offering a bouquet of blackberry and plum fruit flavours with hints of blackcurrant. This follows through to the palate where the fruit flavours are balanced with softened tannins. and is long and satisfying. An overall mouthfilling flavour and very, very moreish. The finish shows spice and pepper notes. One of the better mid-price Chilean Cabernets we have tasted for a while.
When stocked by Tesco was included in an Independent Wine Writer's selection of "The best buys under £10 in Tesco"
Sold in Tesco up to a few months ago for £7.99. Binendwines' price is just £5.95.
