Pierre-Jean Sauvion is the fourth generation of his family to produce wines at Château du Cléray in the Loire.

Crémant de Loire made by Sauvion is a sparkling wine made in the traditional (Champagne) method, being a blend of Chenin Blanc and Chardonnay grapes from vineyards around Angers, Saumur and Tours.

The grapes are separately harvested and vinified, then blended to produce a still wine. This is then bottled with added yeast which produces the bubbles. It remains in bottle in the Château cellars for 12 months and then undergoes disgorgment and dosage to produce this superb Brut sparkling wine. To this extent, this wine is produced in exactly the same way as Champagne, excepting that the main grape is Chenin Blanc with added Chardonnay.

The result is a perfectly balanced lively Crémant sparkling wine with blossom aromas. The mousse is rich, frothy and long lasting, with ripe up-front flavours of peach and white-fleshed fruits, followed by a refreshing finish. Sauvion Crémant de Loire France Brut is not as dry as Brut Champagne and is rich and full in the mouth with good length.

To repeat, this wine is bottle fermented like Champagne - for comparison Prosecco is tank fermented and therefore has less mousse and sparkle.

Indeed, why bother with Prosecco when you can buy this wine for less?
