This superb white wine was produced by The Cantina di Monteforte, a wine co-operative which has 600 members and harvests about 20,000 tonnes of grapes a year.  They produced most of the "Jamie's Italian" white wines which Binendwines has recently stocked, and which we've had so many repeat orders and complimentary comments. There is still a lot of Italian white wines being offered of inferior quality and poor value for money so it reassuring to have a winemaker who consistently produces top quality wines.

This Garganega Pinot Grigio is produced from grapes selected from high quality vineyards in the area between Lake Garda and Vicenza. The varietals were separately harvested then gently pressed, with fermentation at 16 to 18C using selected yeasts. The wines were back blended in a proportion of 85% Garganega and 15% Pinot Grigio, and the final wine left to marry on its lees for 3 months before bottling. Stainless steel was used throughout to retain all the freshness of the grapes. The entire winemaking process was under the supervision of Monteforte's Kiwi winemaker, Matt Thomson.

The wine is a bright lemon-yellow colour with a wonderful floral nose - honeysuckle and jasmine. Floral notes continue on the aromatic palate, with pear, red apple and citrus fruit flavours enhanced by good minerality. Overall a zesty, easy to drink, well-structured dry white wine with considerable texture and soft, lightly honeyed fruit on the finish.

The addition of Garganega makes a more interesting, characterful wine than many basic Pinot Grigios. It evokes thoughts of summer evenings sipping wine by the shores of the lake!

Highly versatile, ideal as an aperitif or with seafood, grilled fish, salads and cold white meats.

Has not been seen on the High Street, perhaps it was a restaurant only label, but similar wines sell for up to £8.95.
