Footprint (The Long Walk) is an appropriate brand name for the range of wines produced under the personal supervision of master winemaker Mike Graham given that he has crossed the world making wines. He is a veteran of 37 harvests in South Africa and 7 in France, working with some of the most revered names. He has judged at both national and international competitions and sits on the tasting panel for the Wine & Spirits board of South Africa.

African Pride Wines sources its grapes from contracted producers in Stellenbosch, Worcester, Wellington, and Paarl. The wines are vinified, blended and bottled under the personal supervision of their winemaker, shareholder and walking encyclopaedia, the afore mentioned Mike Graham.

The grapes were harvested at optimum ripeness with the Sémillon being harvested 2 weeks before the Chenin Blanc, with each varietal vinified separately. Each varietal underwent the same vinification. the grapes were destalked and crushed, then cooled and lightly pressed. The Free run juice and the press juice were vinified separately then settled for 24-48 hours to ensure a good clarity. The racked clear juice was inoculated with a selected yeast strain and fermented between 12 –14°C for 21-23 days. The wines were racked, blended, and stored cool on fine lees. Prior to bottling the wine was stabilized, racked once more and lightly filtered. The blend for this vintage is 55% Chenin Blanc and 45% Sémillon.

Juicy tropical fruit flavours of Chenin Blanc complement the pear and citrus flavours of Sémillon. On the first sip there is a touch of heather which is followed by beguiling flavours of peach, apricot and juicy citrus fruit. This is a complex, elegant, and superbly made white wine.

Perfect as an aperitif or with light alfresco meals and mezze platters. The ideal summer wine.  Serve chilled but not too cold.
