Rueda is a wine producing region in the heart of the Iberian Peninsula, on the high plateau of Castilla y León, between two of Spain’s most famous red-wine regions, Ribera del Duero and Toro, and just to the north-west of the Spanish capital, Madrid. The river Duero flows through this region from East to West. Rueda was the first Denominación de Origen to be certified in the Region of Castilla y León (1980). This high plateau is characterised by a typical continental climate featuring long cold winters, a brief spring season, and dry harsh hot summers. In Rueda, the indigenous Verdejo variety is a byword for a delicious light and fruity white.

Dama del Lagos Verdejo is made in the Cuatro Rayas winery at La Seca, in the heart of Rueda. Cuatro Rayas is one of the longest serving producers in Rueda, with a resulting average vineyard age to make others enviousThe careful handling of the top grape variety in this region, Verdejo, combined with their modern wine making techniques, has resulted in a deliciously fresh and fruity white wine of authentic character and personality.

The grapes were harvested at night in early October. Cool night temperatures allow the grapes to retain their wonderful aromatic nature. After crushing, the must was left for maceration for 6 to 8 hours at low temperatures. The fermentation took place at a controlled temperature in stainless steel tanks at 14-16º C. The wine making process includes careful handling at every stage. The result is a fresh and delicate wine.

Pale yellow with subtle touches of gold. Aromas are expressive, bursting with honey, orange blossom and sweet green herbs together with elegant scents of citrus and tropical fruit - juicy tangerines, pineapple and grapefruit. The palate is full of fruity, herbal flavours and a touch of fennel on the finish. A light wine yet full flavoured, well balanced with a silky texture and good length.

Delicious as a fresh aperitif and goes well with Mediterranean cuisine, pizzas, pastas, tapas, whitefish, salmon, sushi, gambas, shellfish and stews.

If you like Sauvignon Blanc you will love Verdejo - and at Binendwines' price of just £5.75, what's not to like?
