Yet another wine we have obtained from the defunct Jamie Oliver "Italian" restaurant chain.

Pinot Grigio has been one of the trendiest Italian white wines over recent years and consequently there have been very many inferior wines produced to cash in on its popularity. This superb example was made by Cantine do Monteforte, one of the best volume winemakers in Venezie in the north-east of Italy in the hinterland of Venice, probably the best Pinot Grigio region.

Pale straw in colour with green tints, the nose shows characterful aromas with slight hints of white stone, crisp pear and citrus. The wine has great intensity and balance typical of a high quality Pinot Grigio. There is an impressive finish with zesty acidity and freshness. This is a rich and elegant wine from the ripest grapes grown in Cantina di Monteforte's best vineyards. Complex and crisp with a long, smooth finish.

Ideal for any light meal, perfect as an aperitif or just drinking on its own.

In "Jamie's Italian" it was priced at £22.50 but obviously we can't find a retail value. However, Tescos sell a comparable Pinot Grigio from this same producer at £8.50.

Binendwines’ price is a superb £5.75.
