Grant Burge Wines was established in 1988 and located in the heart of the Barossa Valley. Their wines are renowned all over the world for their consistent quality and integrity, allowing the terroir of their select vineyards to speak for themselves through minimal intervention, winemaking practices and careful vineyard management.

Grant Burge is a Five Star rated Winemaker in the "James Halliday Wine Companion", the "bible" of Australian wine.

This Benchmark Cabernet Sauvignon was sourced from premium wine regions throughout South Australia. The 2017 vintage in South Australia, saw above average winter rainfall, followed by a dry spring. The result was low yields, but good ripeness and varietal flavours in the wines. Following harvest, the fruit was crushed and de-stemmed, and gently pressed before fermentation in stainless steel tanks for approximately seven days. After secondary malolactic fermentation (turning malic acid into lactic acid to provide a creamy texture) was complete, a portion of the wine was transferred to older American and French oak hogsheads for maturation for around 10 months. These wines were then skilfully blended and the resultant wine bottled.

Deep garnet in colour, this wine has a rich and varied bouquet of blackcurrant and coffee bean with dark chocolate and mint highlighted by lifted earthy characters. The mid-palate is soft and rich with loads of chocolate and berry flavours and well-integrated oak that adds spice to the flavour profile. The palate is long and elegantly structured with oak and Cabernet tannins combining to carry this wine through to a long and flavoursome finish.

The perfect accompaniment to all red meats - beef, venison and lamb - also tomato based pasta dishes. The ideal wine for barbecues when the time is right.

We cannot find this wine anywhere else to establish a "benchmark" price, but overseas' prices would indicate a UK price of up to £11.

At Binendwines, just £7.95 for a wine that is drinking superbly well.
