Blackstone Winery is based in Graton, in Sonoma County's Russian River Valley, and is best known for its California Merlot, which is popular on restaurant by-the-glass lists across the USA.
The Winemaker’s Select range was created to produce smooth, flavoursome, harmonious wines with rich fruit, supple texture, and balanced oak. Early on, this approach found its ideal expression in Blackstone Merlot, which soon became and still remains America’s Favourite Merlot. Winemaker’s Select wines are sourced from premier growing regions throughout California, each meticulously selected to contribute certain nuances to the final blend. Drawing from the best parcels in the same areas year after year ensures Winemaker’s Select wines maintain the consistency that is Blackstone’s heritage.
The Blackstone Winery is proud to be a certified member of California’ s Sustainable Winegrowing Programme.
This wine is a blend of 79% Merlot, 14% Syrah, 4% Petite Sirah, 2% Cabernet Sauvignon, and 1% Malbec, each varietal harvested from select vineyards and separately vinified. After skilful blending, the final wine was aged for 11 months in a combination of French and American oak to produce The Blackstone Winemaker’s Select Merlot.
It displays a bright strawberry nose with expressive flavours of blackberry and black cherry, plum jam and chocolate, mingling with hints of vanilla and smoky notes from oak ageing. Powerful yet supple, with a smooth, lingering finish. Overall a delightful, smooth soft merlot, full of jammy flavours, consistent and balanced and oh so moreish.
One of the best Merlots we have tasted for some time.
The ideal match for any red meats, particularly grilled steaks, hearty lasagne, and baked salmon.
