First Drop Wines is based in The Barossa Valley in South Australia and produce out of the ordinary wines with very quirk labelling. Conceived by two friends, Matt ‘Gantos’ Gant and John ‘JR’ Retsas, with a desire to make wines to drink, not just appreciate. First Drop makes wines with flavour, texture and a splash of funk; from fruit sourced from unique vineyards in the Adelaide Hills, McLaren Vale and Barossa to bring a diverse, deliciously exciting and thought-provoking line up of flavours.
Full Fat White is a blend of four different grapes, each contributing different elements to the wine: Pinot Grigio gives a zesty, citrus backbone, Arneis adds flavours of pear and grapefruit, Chardonnay loads on tropical fruit flavours and a drop of Moscatel adds aromatic floral notes.
After blending, the wine was left for 4 months “sur lie” in stainless steel tanks. The resulting palate is luscious, with lemon curd and lime brulée flavours to the fore, undercut by thirst-quenching drinkability.
There’s a lot going on in this wine which means it a food friendly star favourite. This wine would suit white meats, sea food, or just drink it on its own.
The UK Importer of these wines has folded resulting in Binendwines being able to buy stock at a very competitive price. Sells elsewhere for around £15.50 - better than half price here at just £6.95.
