This wine was produced by Bodeags Riovinsa, part of the Grupo Bodegas Criadores de Rioja which both owns its own vineyards and also buys in grapes from select growers throughout the Rioja Alta sub-region. Vista Alegre in Spanish means "happy view". This makes reference to the name of one of Bodegas Criadores' most beautiful vineyards, located in the very heart of Rioja Alta region, where the majority of grapes for this wine come from.
Made from Tempranillo grapes with a small percentage of Graciano which both were hand-picked then separately vinified by master winemaker Paloma Redondo. The fermentation was in stainless steel tanks at controlled temperature of 28°, with several days of maceration afterwards on the skins to obtain maximum clour and flavour from the grapes. Following back blending, the resultant wine was then aged in a selection of American and French oak barrels for 18 months, then blended again to produce the final wine. This was then bottle-aged in the Bodega for another 12 months before being released.
The wine has an appealing deep red colour with ruby and tawny rims. To the nose, smooth notes with good quality wood and spicy hints. In the mouth it is round and pleasant, full of strawberry and cherry fruit flavours, with toasty hints at the finish that give it consistency. Lingering minerals notes
Serve at 16-18°. Rioja is the wine for roast Lamb but is equally suitable for all other red meat dishes and would complement poultry too.
The 2011 Vintage is scored "Excellente". Only 5 vintages in the past 20 years have been given this top rating.
