Maison Castel is one of France's top winemakers who also produce a varietal range showing the diversity of French wines. This Sauvignon Blanc is designated a Côtes de Gascogne Protected Geographical Indication wine.
Gascony is characterized by its temperate oceanic climate and is this aromatic grape variety’s preferred region as it enables it to reach optimal maturity. Its terroir endows the ripe grapes with lovely acidity reflected in the nice taut, fresh character of the wines.
Grapes were harvested then chilled to protect from oxidisation. Direct pressing was followed by a low temperature static settling. Fermentation was carried out between 16-18° in order to bring out the wine’s exotic aromas. Ageing of the wine on the fine lees for around 2 months added extra complexity.
The colour is pale yellow; the nose shows intense floral notes and mineral nuances. The palate has lovely intensity giving way to beautiful elegance and freshness
Serve lightly chilled as an aperitif or paired with seafood, oysters, vegetables and grilled fish. Great with salmon tartare.
Southern French Sauvignon has its own nuances not found in this varietal from other regions/countries.
This wine was awarded a BRONZE MEDAL at the International Wine and Spirits Challenge in 2016.
Sells elsewhere for up to £7 - at Binendwines it is now just £5.25 to clear the last few cases.
