Non-vintage
Origin: Argentina
Taste guide: Medium bodied, ripe berry fruits, spice and pepper notes, lightly oaked
75cl - 13.5% - screwcap
Malbec has now become the third most popular red varietal in the world and of course excels in Argentina. This wine was produced specifically by one of Argentina's best volume wine producers for a major wholesaler selling to restaurants.
This is a non-vintage wine, where the winemaker has taken the best wines from two different years - 2018 and 2019 - and blended them to produce a superb wine. There is nothing wrong with a wine being non-vintage - indeed people pay up to £40 and more for non-vintage Champagne! Wines are stored at the winery in large vats in prime conditions and only bottled as and when needed. This wine was bottled in late March 2019.
The colour is deep dark red, and the nose offers intense aromas of black stone fruit interwoven with hints of chocolate and sweet spice. This is continued on the palate where the concentrated fruit flavours are balanced by good acidity and vanilla notes from the part oak ageing leading to a long, velvety finish.
Needless to say, Malbec is the perfect wine for steaks and all beef dishes.
Not seen at all in retail, but restaurant prices have been seen at around £20 - which indicates a retail of around £9 plus.
Binendwines' price is merely £6.25.
