Nieto Senetiner has grown to become one of the leading stars of Mendoza. Although the vineyards and winery were founded by Italian immigrants and date back to 1888, they were acquired by the Nieto and Senetiner families in 1969. Nieto has some 400 hectares of vineyards in virtually all of the best sub-districts of Mendoza from which it produced this classic Malbec..Since joining the estate, winemaker Santiago Mayorga has taken the wines to another level and was named 'Young Winemaker of the Year 2017' by Tim Atkin.
Following harvest, the grapes were destemmed and crushed before initial cold maceration. Fermentation took place in stainless steel with the wine then undergoing natural malolactic fermentation adding complexity and structure. The final wine was left to age for a few months in stainless steel.
The colour is a vibrant red with violet tones. A delicate and balanced blend of forest fruit, plum and cherry comes through on the bouquet leading to a medium bodied palate of dark stone fruit flavours. These are balanced with softened, rounded natural tannins.
An ageing potential of 2 years plus as indicated by the winery, so is still drinking very well.
