Origin: McGuigan's Wines, South East Australia
Taste guide: Medium bodied, very fruity, smooth, soft, no oaking
75cl - 13% - screwcap
The Black Label is the flagship range for McGuigan’s and has continued to be one of the biggest selling Australian wines in the Independent trade in the UK. This wine is a superbly harmonious blend of Shiraz, Grenache and Mataro (Mourvèdre) grapes from the Murray Valley, which were harvested at the optimum maturity level to produce a beautifully soft, fruity style of wine.
The first thing you notice about this wine is the lovely berry and spice aromas. Following this is the wonderful flavours of spicy plum, cherry and blackberry that flow through the mouth, resulting in an approachable fruit driven wine with a smooth and mouth filling finish. It is nicely balanced with great fruit characters and a persistence of flavour. The colour is garnet red, the palate full of damson, plum, and forest fruit flavours with lifted chocolate and cherry aromas. There are cinnamon spicy and peppery notes on the long finish.
Black Label Red is a very versatile wine that is especially rewarding with tomato based Italian, spicy Asian food and pizza.
Black Label wines are available exclusively in the independent sector and now sell for anything up to £7.99.
At Binendwines - now just £6.75.
