The production of wine in the Marlborough region of New Zealand has increased dramatically over the past 5 years or so. Much of the excess juice (invariably the lower quality) has been sold off in bulk and shipped to the UK to be bottled here under spurious brand names for all the major supermarkets to use as one of their many misleading "special offer" deals. A lot of this wine is thin, sharp and short lived, and not representative of the quality that Marlborough Sauvignon used to be associated with.
This label could also fit into the category of a "made up name" but the difference here is that this wine has been produced by one of the best wineries in Marlborough especially for a well-respected importer.
Produced from fruit grown in from fruit grown in some of the better vineyards, such as Omaku, Wairau and Awatere Valleys, harvested in the early morning to preserve their flavour, then destemmed, crushed and lightly pressed with minimal skin contact. Fermentation was at low temperatures in stainless steel with selected yeast strains to preserve the inherent fruit flavours.
The 2014 vintage benefited from an excellent growing and harvesting season, to produce a ‘top’ wine displaying a sparkling pale straw green colour and an excellent full palate. The warm days and cool nights of Marlborough have produced the region's typical Sauvignon Blanc, exhibiting aromas of nectarine, peach, citrus, gooseberry and dried herbs. The palate is fruit driven with tropical fruit and citrus flavours. Shows more minerality than most Marlborough Sauvignons and has a long clean finish, which is fresh and crisp.

This vintage is still drinking very well and will continue to do so for a few more months, but is not one for keeping. Mind you at this price why would you - just buy, drink and enjoy!
