Origin: Fitou - Appellation d'origine côntrolée
Taste guide: Full bodied soft and fruity, blackcurrant and berry flavours, oaked
75cl - 13% - screwcap
Fitou is one of the most prestigious of the Languedoc appellations producing some of the best wines in Southern France. This wine is made by the renowned winemaker Calvet, who have extended their winemaking expertise outside of their usual Bordeaux region.
Made primarily from the main varietal of southern France, Carignan, blended with Grenache and Syrah. Each varietal was separately vinified with selected, perfectly ripened grapes, using traditional fermentation techniques. The cuvées were then back blended and matured in wood for a short time.
The Carignan gives backbone - the Grenache and Syrah add soft qualities. Red berries, balckcurrant and violets show in the bouquet and on the palate. The tannins are softened and the woodiness is very discreet. The finish is explosive
It is ideal served with roast lamb, casseroles and stews.
