Founded in 1974, Matua was the first New Zealand winery to produce Sauvignon Blanc and takes its name  from a Maori word meaning Head of the Family.

Sauvignon Blanc grapes were harvested from more than 100 different vineyards across Marlborough, encompassing all the sub-regions within the Wairau and Awatere Valleys. This ensures that the wine is always the most complete expression of the Marlborough vintage.

For 2016, selected parcels of Sauvignon Blanc were separated from the skins before pressing. A cool fermentation, in stainless steel, combined with Matua’s own yeast selection helped to enhance the pungent natural aromas we know and love in NZ Sauvignon.

Following fermentation the wine was left to sit on its lees before final blending and then making its way into bottle for you to enjoy.

This is a great all-round Kiwi Sauvignon, combining tangy grapefruit and gooseberry flavours with hints of passion fruit and capsicum, all delivered with an explosion of refreshing acidity. Refreshingly good this is classic Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc, with bright aromatic herbal notes, backed up by those delicious tropical fruits the style is famous for.

Virtually all of the cheap label New Zealand Sauvignon, and quite a few so-called premium labels, have the wine shipped in bulk and UK bottled.

Matua Sauvignon Blanc is produced and bottled in New Zealand at the winery.
