Rioja Alavesa is a sub-division situated in the northern part of the Rioja region, Bodegas Solar Viejo winery was founded in 1937 in the medieval town of Laguardia, Álava. Its name comes from ‘Casas Solariegas’, which are the traditional noblemen’s houses inside the town, where the first Solar Viejo wine was made. The present winery is located in the heart of Rioja Alavesa at the base of Sierra de Cantabria mountains.

The prestigious wines of Rioja Alavesa are internationally recognized. The quality of its wines is due to its privileged location: clay and calcareous soils, semi-dry climate and protection from old North winds by the Sierra de Cantabria mountains. This, plus age-old wine traditions and the value-added of new technology, produces world class wines.

This new style of white Rioja is made from the traditional Viura grape (60%) blended with 40% Chardonnay. The resultant wine is pale straw in colour and shows vibrant fruit flavours, hints of crisp citrus and soft floral notes. Overall this is a crisp and refreshing wine with well integrated acidity.

Enjoy as an aperitif or as a versatile accompaniment to grilled chicken, seafood, white meats, smoked salmon or soft cheeses.
